Dave Portnoy claims the Chiefs are finished

Portnoy’s Take on Chiefs: A Dynasty in Decline?

Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, recently made quite a statement about the Kansas City Chiefs during a media event featuring Travis Kelce, ahead of the 2025 regular season. It seems the conversation around the Chiefs took a turn when Kelce announced that Taylor Swift would be joining his podcast. Shortly after, Portnoy took to social media to declare that the Chiefs’ so-called dynasty was “cooked.”

In a post on X, Portnoy emphasized that the media attention around Kelce indicates that the Chiefs’ glory days might be behind them. “This media blitz from Travis Kelce confirms that the Chiefs are being cooked,” he wrote. He likened the current situation to the New England Patriots’ previous dynastic run, which, if we think about it, is a pretty bold comparison.

Portnoy, who also made an appearance on Fox Sports’ “Big Noon Kickoff,” has joined the chorus of critics suggesting that the Chiefs’ dominance is waning. In light of this, Chiefs coach Andy Reid addressed the concerns during an interview. He pointed out that many of their games have been close, which is a hallmark of the NFL. “You understand because there were so many close games, but that’s the National Football League,” Reid remarked. He seemed confident about their performances, although the lingering doubts may not go away easily.

Kelce himself acknowledged in a recent interview with GQ that he could have been sidetracked by his newfound celebrity status, despite his success on the field. He candidly said, “I think I might have slipped a bit because I focused a little more on trying to set up myself.” He also expressed his determination to prove himself this season, indicating that he feels a mix of pressure and excitement.

It’s a fascinating narrative unfolding around the Kansas City Chiefs this season, blending celebrity and sports in a way that’s hard to ignore. Whether they can reclaim their former glory remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure: the drama both on and off the field is anything but dull.
