Armenia and Azerbaijan reject Iran and Russia regarding a U.S.-mediated peace agreement.

Peace Agreement Between Armenia and Azerbaijan Marks a New Era

Leaders from Armenia and Azerbaijan have downplayed concerns of hostility from neighboring forces after a peace agreement facilitated by the U.S. The accord is seen as a potential turning point, ending decades of conflict in the South Caucasus.

In an exclusive discussion, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed their appreciation for President Donald Trump’s role in brokering the deal. They emphasized that this agreement aims to foster increased regional economic ties and political cooperation, clarifying that it does not target third countries. In fact, both leaders noted that it could be strategically beneficial for nations like Russia and Iran.

“This is not a zero-sum game,” Pashinyan remarked, adding that the agreement “holds specific advantages for Iran and Russia as well.”

The agreement includes a significant transport route that connects Azerbaijan with a key region, traversing Armenian territory. Armenia has granted exclusive U.S. development rights through a long-term lease, enabling infrastructure advancements in various sectors.

This initiative is expected to reshape regional dynamics and offer the U.S. a solid strategic position, while simultaneously bypassing traditional Russian and Iranian channels. However, Iran has reacted negatively, indicating readiness to take military action to obstruct these routes.

Meanwhile, Pashinyan faces domestic criticism from Armenian nationalists who view the agreement as a betrayal. They demand greater transparency and question the legitimacy of his decision to sign this treaty. Yet, Pashinyan remains resolute, suggesting that the deal might improve Armenia’s investment climate and attract foreign interest.

Amid ongoing political tensions, Pashinyan also finds himself at odds with the Armenian Apostolic Church following recent arrests related to alleged conspiracies against the government. He assured that the judicial process is independent and adheres to Armenian laws.

As the situation evolves, it appears that while the peace agreement might bring hope, the path forward will be filled with challenges both regionally and domestically.
