Trump Commemorates 90th Anniversary of Social Security
On Thursday, President Trump marked the 90th anniversary of the Social Security program, signing a declaration that emphasized his administration’s commitment to safeguarding this essential resource for future generations.
The Social Security Act, which President Franklin D. Roosevelt signed on August 14, 1935, established one of the most significant programs in American history.
“It’s now the 90th anniversary of Social Security. Today, we celebrate this momentous law,” Trump stated at the event. “During my campaign, I made a solemn vow to protect Social Security for seniors, and we are fulfilling that promise, ensuring its strength for years to come.”
Trump pointed out that nearly 60 million seniors depend on the program, stressing that they’ve contributed to it and “deserve leaders who prioritize their interests and work to protect Social Security.”
Indeed, safeguarding Social Security was a key focus of Trump’s campaign. He and the Republican Congress have taken significant steps to achieve their goals with an extensive piece of legislation. This law includes considerable tax deductions for middle-income seniors.
In addition, Trump mentioned that his administration had removed 275,000 unauthorized individuals from the Social Security roles and took action to monitor over 12.4 million participants over the age of 120, including more than 135,000 who are over 160.
He argued that if Democrats were in control, the program would face severe challenges. “With us, it’s going to last a long time,” he asserted.
Trump contrasted his record with that of former President Biden, claiming Social Security deteriorated during Biden’s tenure. “Under Biden, it fell like never before. It has become worse,” he remarked.
The waiting time for calls to the Social Security Administration averaged over 42 minutes during Biden’s administration, while field office wait times reached 32 minutes. Trump commended Social Security Commissioner Frank Vignano for his efforts in significantly reducing these waiting times.
“The changes he implemented are remarkable, leading to profound improvements nationwide,” Trump stated. “Call wait times have dropped by 73%, enabling us to serve twice as many clients each day. Additionally, there’s been a 26% decrease in backlogs for people with disabilities, and seniors now have unprecedented 24/7 online access,” he noted.
