A teacher in Arkansas, who is reportedly linked to a double murder, entered a guilty plea for his role in the crime on Thursday. Andrew James McGan, 28, faces two capital murder charges related to the deaths of Clinton David Brink, 43, and Kristen Amanda Brink.
The incident occurred on July 26th, and McGan is accused of taking the lives of the couple, who were allegedly trying to shield their young daughters during the attack. Thankfully, the girls—ages 9 and 7—were unharmed and have since been placed with other relatives.
The motive for this horrific event remains unclear. Authorities have emphasized not to assume that the children were the primary targets. Witnesses claimed that Kristen had initially hung back to protect her daughter but later returned to assist her husband, both ultimately facing fatal consequences.
Authorities discovered the couple’s bodies in a remote area of the park, well off the main hiking path. Remarkably, the suspected assailants had vacated the scene long before police informed the public that there was still a threat.
A manhunt was launched days after the tragedy, with police releasing details based on descriptions provided by the daughters, who managed to escape without injuries. McGan was arrested on July 31 while reportedly getting a haircut—an attempt, perhaps, to disguise himself.
His hairstylist described him as having a “soulless” demeanor. Moreover, parents of his former students had noted that he often appeared standoffish and indifferent.
Previously, McGan was employed at a Texas elementary school but resigned in 2023 following concerns about his classroom management skills and professional conduct. Parents had also raised alarms about some inappropriate interactions with students.
A hearing is scheduled for McGan on November 14, with the judge ordering him not to be restrained.
