Cruz Discusses Upcoming Summit with Trump and Putin
On Wednesday’s episode of FNC’s “Hannity,” Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) talked about the upcoming meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Cruz expressed criticism towards former President Joe Biden, suggesting that Trump would handle the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and Russia more effectively.
“Senator, I’m glad you were here,” said host Sean Hannity. “I’d like to hear your thoughts on the summit. If I’m wrong about anything, please let me know. I just worry about how Trump will negotiate with European leaders and Putin. It seems like we might be spending political capital on a US-based cause without gaining much, except perhaps a more secure world with fewer casualties.”
“European leaders have often shown weakness towards Putin and our adversaries,” Cruz responded. “This is part of what led to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. They’ve been eager buyers of Russian oil and gas, which has funded military actions. The reason we’re facing this conflict in Ukraine is due to the weakness from Joe Biden and the Democrats.”
“When Biden took office, he gave Putin a billion-dollar boost, which contributed to the war in Ukraine. My thoughts and prayers are with Trump over the next few days. The idea that Biden’s conciliatory approach could prevent conflict is just misguided.”
“When you mention the possibility that President Trump might act decisively, I agree,” Cruz added. “That’s reminiscent of Ronald Reagan’s approach with Gorbachev in Reykjavik, which ultimately helped win the Cold War. Ending the conflict in Ukraine requires a strong leader, and that’s exactly what President Trump represents.”
