Trump's AI directive might change the future — if MAGA takes action

AI and Its Controversial Growth

Technology has, in many ways, shifted from the realm of fiction to our everyday lives, and the transformation it brings is nothing short of revolutionary. Initially, when artificial intelligence (AI) became a tangible concept, a lot of folks expressed skepticism. Some viewed it as another tool for an elite few to manipulate information and reshape public viewpoints, possibly in collaboration with government entities.

In response, former President Donald Trump took action to mitigate this perceived threat. His latest executive order ensures that federal contracts are awarded only to AI companies that emphasize honesty and ideological neutrality.

The collaboration with MAGA-aligned AI policy experts is expected to usher in what many hope will be a renewed era of American greatness.

However, viewing AI solely as a danger might hinder any potential benefits. I’ve seen that most people involved in technology often don’t grasp what AI truly is until they’re already in the field. Its presence is inevitable, whether we embrace it or not.

At the same time, other nations—some even viewed as adversaries—like China are not standing still; they’re making strides in AI development. If they achieve a significant breakthrough first, the consequences could be severe. Our engineers are aware of the stakes. It’s crucial for the U.S. to lead in this arena.

The Landscape of Support

Despite the looming risks, there’s a noticeable gap in AI support within the MAGA community—until quite recently when President Trump addressed the topic at an event focused on winning the AI race, hosted by the “All-in” podcast at The Hill and Valley Forum.

This development is significant. Just think back a few years when an AI bot was heavily restricted on social media platforms—much like I was at one point.

Individuals like James Burnham are essential in bridging the gap between the tech world and the MAGA base.

Burnham’s Role in AI

At the summit, I spoke with Burnham, who previously worked as a senior lawyer for the government and now heads the AI Innovation Council. We discussed how MAGA can influence the future of AI.

Now, Burnham shares a name with someone perhaps more notorious—but he’s focused on a different path. His mission is to mend fences and set AI policies for years to come.

Burnham remarked, “I was there when Trump announced his candidacy. I really want to help connect genuine MAGA supporters with the technological advancements ahead.”

His passion for AI aligns with some of Silicon Valley’s most enthusiastic innovators, making it seem odd that he finds himself in this position. Yet for Burnham, advocating for American progress in AI isn’t just about defense; it’s about seizing an opportunity for a new era in the U.S.

As he mentioned, in the New York Post, “AI is a transformative technology that could propel the U.S. to unprecedented heights.”

Rethinking AI’s Potential

However, not everyone in the MAGA circle shares Burnham’s optimistic view. It’s true that many still carry concerns about how progressive tech firms might exploit AI to restrict our freedoms. Given that history, our instinct may be to curb technology before it grows.

But that approach isn’t practical—or fair. If we allow adversaries like China to advance without us, we’re handing them the future on a silver platter. It’s critical for America to establish its own narrative when it comes to AI, rather than letting the left steer the conversation.

If we genuinely want to progress, we need a more constructive relationship with technology. That’s where advocates like Burnham come in; their efforts to engage positively could prove incredibly beneficial.

In contrast to AI’s objectivity, those aligned with MAGA are working to expand its possibilities in a way that resonates with American values, possibly paving the way for a new golden age of exceptionalism.
