Girlfriend of victim among nine taken into custody in teenager's murder near Myrtle Beach

Tragic Shooting of South Carolina Teen Sparks Multiple Arrests

A teenager from South Carolina lost his life in June, leading to a complex investigation involving several suspects. Tray Dean Wright, just 16 years old, was shot and killed on June 24 on First Neck Road, located approximately 45 miles west of Myrtle Beach.

The following day, authorities arrested 19-year-old Devan Scott Raper. Reports suggest that at least one teenager recorded the crime. As the situation unfolded, other suspects were gradually identified, prompting an extended series of arrests over the weeks that followed.

“I can’t handle all these court dates and hearings,” said Ashley Lindsay, Wright’s mother. “Not only have I lost my child, but it feels like I don’t have a moment to process it all.”

Among the involved individuals is Wright’s girlfriend, 17-year-old Gianna Kistenmacher. According to statements from law enforcement, she allegedly brought Raper to the crime scene knowing he was armed.

A spokesperson for the Sheriff’s Office did not respond immediately for comment. However, prosecutors have confirmed that nine teenagers have been charged, although they refrained from providing further details due to the ongoing investigation.

Major General Michael Nun of the Florence County Sheriff’s Office noted that the group had conspired to bring Raper to confront Wright, fully aware that he posed a danger. “They knew he was armed and had threatened the victim,” Nun stated.

Some of the suspects, including five, are being treated as adults under state law. Meanwhile, prosecutors have announced additional charges against ten more individuals connected to the shooting.

Sheriff TJ Joye remarked that the incident appears connected to both a romantic rivalry and disagreements among the involved teenagers. “It’s a tragedy to see a young life lost, and another’s potentially ruined in prison over such conflicts,” he said.

Raper is currently facing charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime while being held without bail. Others, like Kendall, are also denied bond. Meanwhile, Belviso and Kearns have each been released after posting bonds of $20,000 as they await trial.
