Bella Thorne’s Proposal Sparks Mixed Reactions Online
Bella Thorne’s recent engagement announcement has ignited quite a stir on social media. On Saturday, the 27-year-old actress shared the news of her proposal to fiancé Mark Ems, which came two years after he initially popped the question.
Thorne openly discussed her journey, posting on social media, “Three years ago, a year later he proposed.” She even included a video of herself getting down on one knee. “A year later, I did that too,” she captioned the footage.
While many followers congratulated the couple, others criticized her unconventional approach to engagements. Some comments expressed disbelief, with one user questioning why a woman would propose. “OK women don’t normalize this?” one comment, which gathered nearly 100,000 likes, read. Another individual remarked, “Was that a joke?”
In contrast, a number of fans came forward to defend Thorne, arguing that what she did demonstrated equality within their relationship. “These comments aren’t that. I think what Bella did shows she believes in equality,” one supporter commented. Another voice chimed in, expressing shock at the negative reactions: “Let’s make love a thing.”
The following day, Thorne responded to the criticisms in a light-hearted manner, stating on her Instagram story, “The comments on my post are hilarious!”
Thorne, who previously dated rapper mod Sun and singer Benjamin Mascolo, has had her share of high-profile relationships. She also had an open relationship with Tana Mongeau. In February 2019, she publicly identified as bisexual, sharing her experiences in an interview with Gay Times. She highlighted how challenging it can be for people to understand bisexuality, remarking, “No one seems to understand bisexuality at all.” Thorne added that society often places people into strict categories, making it difficult for those who don’t fit neatly into them.
