Trump personalizes the Oval Office with gold details at his own cost

Trump’s Golden Touch in the Oval Office

President Donald Trump has certainly made his mark—quite literally—in the Oval Office, where gold accents have become a defining feature of this iconic workspace. The opulence of gold is particularly pronounced when global leaders visit to discuss significant matters, such as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

A spokesperson from the White House described these gold enhancements as being of “the highest quality,” although they didn’t dive into specifics. Interestingly, it’s noted that Trump foots the bill for these changes, but the exact cost or amount of gold added remains a mystery.

Back in March, Trump shared his thoughts on the gold accents during an interview, mentioning to Fox News host Laura Ingraham that he felt the room needed “a bit of life.” He went on to explain the difficulty of replicating real gold, stating, “You couldn’t match gold with gold paint, so that’s gold.” Since that discussion, he has decorated not just walls but even the ceiling, which stands at 18 inches high.

Behind the Resolute Desk, Trump has added spectacular gold curtains and flags, and even elaborate details in the ceiling and doorframe have been treated to gilded makeovers. He seems to have a penchant for leaving no stone unturned when it comes to bling.

In another notable change, Trump has integrated copies of the Declaration of Independence within the Oval Office, although he takes precautions to keep them safe from potential damage. It’s curious, though, that the authentic signed version of this foundational document has been safeguarded at the National Archives since 1952.

Interestingly, Trump’s choice of portraits also reflects a specific historical focus; he pays particular attention to what’s displayed above the fireplace, opting for a representation of George Washington in military attire.

The fireplace itself has received a shiny update, too, with gold accents applied to its white marble mantle, adding a touch of neoclassical flair. You can spot various gold accessories on the mantle, although the arrangement seems to shift frequently, perhaps reflecting Trump’s ever-evolving style.

There’s even a gold drink coaster with Trump’s name and his title as the 47th president, serving as a personal touch amid the grandeur.

As Trump embarks on broader renovations, including a new ballroom with a hefty price tag of $200 million funded by private donors, one wonders how this luxurious vision will align with the practicalities of presidency. The ballroom will reportedly accommodate a significant number of guests for state events, reinforcing the White House’s traditional grandeur while introducing modern enhancements.
