Trump Responds to Maryland Governor Inviting Him to Baltimore
President Donald Trump reacted to Maryland Governor Wes Moore’s invitation for a walk in Baltimore, where the governor urged him to address what he described as “out of control, crime-ridden” cities.
In a post on True Social, Trump took aim at Moore’s handling of crime in the state, questioning whether Baltimore might need the National Guard’s assistance, similar to his actions in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. He also mentioned that he had contributed funds to repair a bridge that had been damaged, hinting that he might reconsider that decision.
“Governor Moore asked, in a rather troubling and provocative way, if I’d walk the streets of Maryland with him,” Trump wrote. “I think he means the rampant crime in Baltimore? As president, I’d prefer he tackle this criminal situation before I consider a ‘stroll.’
This response came after Moore sent Trump a letter inviting him to join a public safety walk in Baltimore in September, along with Mayor Brandon Scott and Baltimore City Attorney Ivan Bates.
“I’d like to officially invite you to our next public safety walk in September on a date of your choice,” Moore wrote. “We’ll have the mayor, attorneys, local officials, law enforcement, and community groups joining us. In Maryland and Baltimore, we want to find solutions together.”
Moore emphasized in his letter that safety is the top priority for the people in his state, stating that he has explored various methods, highlighting the state’s comprehensive approach to public safety.
Trump further criticized Moore’s crime statistics, claiming they were dismal unless he was manipulating the data like other “blue states.” The former president indicated that if Moore needed support, as was the case in Los Angeles, he wouldn’t hesitate to deploy the National Guard to help reduce crime in Baltimore.
Previously, in June, Trump had sent the National Guard to Los Angeles to quell violent protests involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.
On August 11, Trump mentioned invoking a particular regulation related to D.C. governance, and since that announcement, reports indicated a 22% drop in violent crime in the city.
“There’s been no crime or murder in D.C. in just a week!” Trump added. “For the Governor of Maryland, at times like these in Baltimore, I would be hesitant to ‘walk down the street.'”
