ICE Detains Unlawful Immigrant Brother of Indian Truck Driver Whose Illegal U-Turn Resulted in Three Deaths in Florida

Truck Driver Arrested After Fatal Accident

Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE) is under scrutiny for the arrest of Harjinder Singh, an undocumented immigrant involved in a tragic accident in Florida that resulted in the deaths of three people. This incident, described as an illegal U-turn, has drawn significant attention, especially since it was captured on video.

Harjinder Singh, 28, was transported back from California to Florida this week and is now facing multiple charges related to the crash. Reports indicate that Singh had been in police custody following the incident, where illegal U-turns led to the fatal collision.

The viral video of the accident has raised eyebrows, as it shows Singh exhibiting little emotional response after realizing the severity of the situation involving the semi-truck he was operating. His brother, 25-year-old Harneet Singh, was also present in the vehicle at that time.

ICE officials later arrested another individual, Harni Toshin, who had previously encountered a border patrol agent at the US-Mexico border but was released into the U.S.

Tricia McLaughlin from the Department of Homeland Security voiced her concerns, stating, “Three innocent people have lost their lives due to the issuance of commercial driver’s licenses to undocumented individuals from Gavin Newsom’s California DMV. It’s utterly absurd.”

In a press release, she implored, “How many more lives need to be lost before Gavin Newsom prioritizes the safety of Americans? We extend our prayers to the victims and their families.” The DHS has pledged to work tirelessly to safeguard public safety and address issues surrounding undocumented immigrants.

Moreover, an investigation initiated by Transportation Director Sean Duffy has revealed how Singh managed to obtain a commercial driver’s license to operate trucks across the nation. Despite being undocumented, Singh received a CDL from Washington’s Sanctuary State in July 2023, even though regulations typically prevent such licenses from being issued to illegal aliens.

Following a traffic stop in New Mexico on July 3, 2023, Singh was ticketed for speeding. However, law enforcement officers were unable to verify his proficiency in English, allowing him to continue driving. After the fatal Florida crash, it was discovered that he scored poorly on an English proficiency test conducted by the Department of Transportation, answering only two of the twelve questions correctly.

Singh originally crossed the US-Mexico border in 2018 and was apprehended by Border Patrol but was released after claiming fear of returning to India. This tragic incident has prompted Secretary of State Marco Rubio to pause the issuance of work visas to foreigners applying for CDLs, expressing concern over the safety of American drivers and the livelihoods of domestic truckers.
