Dave Portnoy blames Ohio State as the ban situation intensifies

Portnoy’s Ban in Ohio Appears to be Lifted

It seems like the situation has shifted. Dave Portnoy might be off the hook regarding his ban in Ohio.

According to a report given to Yahoo Sports, Barstool Sports’ founders were not actually banned. This follows news that Portnoy—a Michigan alum—was declared persona non grata just before his appearance on Fox’s “Big Noon Kickoff” in Columbus, which coincides with Ohio State’s season opener against the number one ranked Texas team.

Ohio State Athletics Manager Ross Bjork clarified that the decision to keep Portnoy off the show and out of the stadium was made by Fox.

On Tuesday, Portnoy responded while wearing a Michigan hat. In a nearly six-minute video, he explained his side of the story.

“This is a unique spot for me because I’m always honest about what’s happening,” Portnoy said. “Barstool operates like an independent pirate ship. We do our own thing. That’s part of why people appreciate us. We don’t hold back or filter our content. We’ve established a substantial relationship with Fox.”

He mentioned that he was already aware of the week-and-a-half-long ban.

“We had to cancel production and pay a deferred fee to avoid coming to Columbus,” he added.

Portnoy fired back at the ban, suggesting that the rivalry had escalated to a point where he felt the restrictions were excessive.

“If you’ve been beaten down by your rival for a decade, it might drive you to act strangely,” he remarked. “They’ve barred me from the stadium and from showcasing our shows on campus. It’s frustrating for Fox to be caught in the middle of this.” He emphasized that they shouldn’t shy away from the situation, asserting, “You banned me. You’re scared of Michigan.”

Fox was contacted for their perspective on this developing story.

Recently, Fox confirmed that Portnoy would be part of the College Football Show, which will feature the “Barstool College Football Show” streaming on Tubi alongside “Big Noon Kickoff.”

Sources informed Front Office Sports that Portnoy’s admission into the stadium was not officially planned by Fox, but they were aware of potential issues related to the rivalry.

Shortly after posting his video, Portnoy took to X to encourage Ohio to concentrate on the upcoming highly anticipated game against Texas.

“Ohio should stop worrying about Michigan,” he stated. “Let’s keep our focus on Texas. The big game is just around the corner. Don’t let Michigan’s inferiority complex ruin the season.”

Ohio State, currently ranked No. 3, will kick off their season on Saturday at noon.
