President Trump’s efforts in Washington, D.C. have reportedly resulted in the apprehension of dangerous individuals, including child sex offenders and members of gangs, who had previously been active in the area.
A senior official from Homeland Security mentioned, “President Trump is committed to making DC safe and beautiful again.”
They continued, stating that ICE and CBP are focused on arresting serious offenders and restoring safety and order to the community.
According to the Department of Homeland Security, a Mexican immigrant, David Perez-Teofani, has been charged with aggravated sexual assault against a child and other serious crimes.
Wilker Patino-Solis, linked to the Tren de Aragua gang, was also arrested after a previous felony robbery charge. He had encountered immigration authorities multiple times prior.
Another individual, Mario Marquez-Garcia from El Salvador, had a lengthy criminal history including DUI and assaulting police officers, and was similarly known to federal authorities.
Notably, D.C. has celebrated a remarkable 12 consecutive days without murder. Since Trump’s involvement, reported crime has decreased.
Recent statistics indicate an overall crime reduction of 11% in the past two weeks, with significant drops in various categories including robbery and carjacking, according to the DC Police Union.
The city’s Democratic mayor supported this data during a press conference, expressing appreciation for federal assistance in enhancing local police capabilities.
Mayor Muriel Bowser highlighted that the ongoing federal support has led to an 87% decrease in carjackings compared to the same period last year.
She emphasized that declines in violent incidents contribute to safer neighborhoods.
Historically, Washington has struggled with high violence rates, often exceeding those of cities like Chicago and significantly higher than New York City.
