Pharmacy Retailers Restrict Access to Updated COVID-19 Vaccine
Two prominent pharmacy chains are reportedly limiting access to the new coronavirus vaccine as officials at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) decrease its usage.
As reported by Fox Business, CVS and Walgreens are adhering to new federal guidelines that restrict eligibility for seniors and high-risk individuals. This was highlighted in a report on Saturday.
This development follows U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s decision to suspend a contract initiated during the Biden administration, which concerns a new coronavirus vaccine created back in February.
“The HHS contract involves American Biotech Company Vaxart Inc., which is working on an oral Covid-19 vaccine. While Kennedy has not terminated the contract, the trial has been placed on hold under a 90-day suspension order issued on Friday,” according to a report from Breitbart News.
CVS has ceased offering Covid vaccine shots in a number of states, including Nevada, New Mexico, Massachusetts, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Utah, Virginia, West Virginia, and Arizona.
CVS mentioned it will manage legally permissible vaccinations at its pharmacy or micropathy locations.
On the other hand, Walgreens stated that it is “ready to provide vaccines in states where we can do so.”
“In areas with distribution limits, high-risk individuals can receive an updated booster if they acquire a prescription from a certified provider,” the Fox article reports.
In May, the CDC had also taken the coronavirus vaccine off its recommended schedule for healthy children and pregnant women, as noted by Breitbart News.
Health authorities indicated that there was no proof suggesting that healthy children needed the vaccine. It was also pointed out that former President Biden promoted the vaccine for healthy adults, but it became quite unpopular, creating some discontent.
In recent developments, the administration of former President Donald Trump is reportedly considering phasing out the Covid-19 vaccine altogether.
