A former long snapper from Ohio has been taken into custody following a troubling domestic incident, during which his girlfriend sustained noticeable injuries including black eyes and bruising around her neck.
Michael Roen McCullough is facing a felony strangulation charge after reports indicated that he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, hitting her multiple times, grabbing her by the throat, and pushing her against a window.
On August 29th, around 9 PM, Columbus Police were called to investigate a report of domestic violence. According to the police, the woman, who is reportedly McCullough’s girlfriend, recounted a distressing series of events from the morning prior.
Court documents reveal that as they were driving home at about 9:30 AM, an argument escalated, resulting in McCullough breaking her phone before allegedly becoming violent.
She reportedly told the officers that he punched her several times, choked her, and pushed her against the window, leaving her dazed and unable to recall much until she regained her senses at home.
“She indicated that she couldn’t breathe and began to panic,” the police noted, according to sources.
Authorities observed visible injuries on the woman, including black eyes, cuts, a swollen lower lip, and bruising on her neck, where McCullough had allegedly grabbed her.
Currently, McCullough is not being held at the Franklin County Jail and is set to make his first court appearance on Tuesday.
The 25-year-old was a walk-on long snapper for the Ohio State Buckeyes from 2018 to 2020. His social media activity suggests he medically retired from football in 2021, and he recently experienced a severe accident that resulted in the loss of his right eye.
