House Democrat warns that many will die if another COVID outbreak occurs

Concerns About Pandemic Preparedness

Representative Debbie Dingell (D-Mich.) expressed significant concern on Friday regarding the United States’ readiness for another pandemic, similar to the Covid-19 crisis that claimed many lives.

“I’m worried that people will die,” Dingell shared during a CNN interview, reflecting on statements made by Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who had participated in a Senate hearing on health care policy just the day before.

“If we face another Covid-19 outbreak, we’re not prepared, and the consequences could be severe,” she added.

Kennedy, known for labeling the Covid vaccine as “the deadliest vaccine he has ever made,” spent nearly three hours on Thursday addressing his position among the nation’s health authorities.

“We lied about everything,” he stated to lawmakers during the hearing.

Dingell, who is 71, noted that throughout her life, she has witnessed significant medical advancements. Yet, she is increasingly concerned about public hesitance towards vaccines. “I was really scared to get the Covid vaccine, but I did because it was essential for my health,” she remarked. “We need informed consumers, but it’s critical that we don’t disregard the importance of vaccines.”

In recent news, Florida announced plans to become the first state to revoke long-standing vaccine mandates for schools.

“Who decides what’s best for your child’s health?” Florida Surgeon General Joseph Radapop commented this past Wednesday. “Your body is a gift from God, and I may not have all the answers.”

Dingell expressed concern that Florida’s move could set a precedent for other states to follow.

“I remember diseases like measles, chickenpox, and mumps. I’ve had all of them, and people do sometimes die from these illnesses,” she said, noting recent measles outbreaks across the nation, including in Michigan.

Kennedy, a former environmental lawyer and persistent vaccine skeptic, advocates for changes in federal Covid-19 vaccine recommendations and highlighted the limited availability of the vaccine in certain states. He also pointed out that funding for mRNA research has been reduced, impacting initiatives tied to President Trump’s Operation Warp Speed, which aimed to accelerate vaccine approval.

During his testimony, Kennedy admitted he was uncertain about the exact number of Covid-19 deaths in the U.S. and questioned the vaccine’s effectiveness in preventing fatalities associated with the virus.

He also raised concerns about rapid leadership changes at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) during Kennedy’s tenure.

“We are the most unhealthy country in the world, which is why we need to make some changes at the CDC,” responded the Health Secretary. “We need to ensure this situation doesn’t recur.”
