Eric Adams Refutes Trump Administration Claims, Promises to Continue His Mayoral Campaign Against Socialist Leading Candidate

Eric Adams Stays in the Race Despite Challenges

New York City Mayor Eric Adams reaffirmed his commitment to his independent reelection campaign on Friday, even as polls show him lagging behind socialist frontrunner Zoran Mamdani.

Adams has been vocal about his intent to continue running, dismissing rumors that he might consider a role in the Trump administration during a passionate press conference. He also expressed his disdain for fellow independent candidate, former Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo, which seems to fuel his resolve to stay in the race, perhaps even aiming to siphon votes from Mamdani in November.

“Andrew Cuomo is a snake and a liar,” Adams told reporters. “I’m in this race. I’m the only one who can beat the mam tick,” he added, reinforcing his determination.

However, Adams is under significant pressure to reassess his campaign due to low polling numbers and multiple corruption scandals. There’s a palpable tension among some Republicans, centrist Democrats, and New York’s business leaders regarding the socialist implications of Mamdani potentially winning.

President Donald Trump pointed out that having too many candidates dilutes the chances of winning. “If you have more than two candidates, then you have a Communist mayor of New York,” he remarked during a press briefing.

On Thursday evening, Trump labeled Mamdani a “communist” who needs to be stopped. Additionally, reports suggest that Trump’s advisors have recommended Adams for a position as the U.S. ambassador to Saudi Arabia, hinting that he might want the mayor to reconsider his reelection efforts. It’s also mentioned that Adams was offered a role in the Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Despite these offers, Adams stated he is focused on the race and committed to staying until Election Day. “There are a lot of reports of him being in Washington on Monday,” he said. “These reports are wrong. I’m out here in the city, engaging with the community as I always have.”

Mamdani, a 33-year-old democratic socialist, recently gained significant traction after defeating 67-year-old Cuomo in a prominent primary race. He responded to Adams’ announcement by sharing a clip of Leonardo DiCaprio’s famous line saying, “I’m not leaving.”

Polling indicates that Mamdani holds a substantial lead, with him garnering around 50% support compared to Adams’ 7% and Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa’s 13%. These figures were derived from a recent survey commissioned by Mamdani’s campaign.

Some Republicans hope to leverage a victory in New York City, using it as a platform for the mid-term elections. The National Republican Congressional Committee has even released content portraying Mamdani as someone who risks turning America into a socially dystopian landscape.

Meanwhile, prominent Democrats, including New York Governor Kathy Hochul and Senate leaders Chuck Schumer and Hakim Jeffries, have yet to endorse Mamdani’s campaign.

Additionally, billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman has thrown his support behind Adams, encouraging him to remain in the race. Ackman criticized Adams’ declining polling, stating clearly on social media that it’s becoming increasingly evident that Adams has little chance against Mamdani.
