Oregon Beavers Manager Frustrated After Loss to Fresno State
Trent Bray, the manager of the Oregon Beavers, expressed significant frustration with his special teams during halftime of their 36-27 loss to Fresno State on Saturday.
In a notable moment of the game, Beavers punter AJ Winsor imitated a snap during the second quarter, inadvertently leading to an opportunity for Fresno State’s Jaden Carrillo. He picked up a bouncing ball and sprinted for a 42-yard touchdown in under a minute during the first half, which was a turning point for the game.
After Carrillo’s score, Fresno State took the lead at 20-15. Nigel Burton, a commentator, spoke to Bray as he headed to the locker room, noting that Bray was particularly upset with the team’s performance.
“We’re okay. But we’ve let them find ways to succeed,” Bray commented. “Special teams and some of the defensive plays, they allowed for those two long touchdown runs that should never have happened. They really didn’t do much to hurt us; we just need to stop making it easy for them.” It’s almost as if he felt that the team was falling into traps they had created themselves.
In the game, Oregon started to gain some momentum in the third quarter with a lengthy 18-play drive lasting 11 minutes. But their following attempts ended in missed opportunities, which was disappointing. They did manage to score again, with just 1:14 left in the game, but Fresno quickly responded with a field goal on their next possession.
The Beavers’ final drive ended with an interception, solidifying their loss and leaving them at 0-2 for the season. Meanwhile, Fresno State celebrated their victory, improving to 2-1.
