Alleged Serial Killer Charged with Multiple Crimes
A man has been accused of meeting victims through dating apps before committing theft and murder.
Rockim Prowell, 34, was charged on Monday with the robbery and murder of two men, whom he allegedly met on these platforms in 2021 and 2023.
In a disturbing incident earlier this year, he is said to have attacked a third victim in February, binding him, threatening him with a baseball bat, and stealing his wallet.
Prowell, hailing from Inglewood, was already on probation for two robbery convictions from 2019 to 2021. Law enforcement suspects he might be linked to up to 30 break-ins across Los Angeles.
To escape notice during these crimes, he reportedly wore a bizarre rubber mask resembling a young white man, as captured in security footage.
Officers discovered this mask when they found Prowell in a vehicle connected to the crimes.
It’s still unclear whether he was wearing the mask during the alleged murders of 51-year-old Miguel Angel King and 53-year-old Robert Gutierrez, which took place in 2021 and 2023, respectively. King’s body was located in the Angeles National Forest, displaying fatal gunshot wounds. Meanwhile, authorities have not yet found Gutierrez’s body, but they did locate his car in Prowell’s garage.
Prowell is said to have bound and tormented 40-year-old Jordan Andrews in February. Fortunately, Andrews managed to escape, but Prowell allegedly ran him down with his car, resulting in a broken leg for the victim.
“Imagine the terror these victims must have felt, thinking they were meeting someone for a harmless reason, only to encounter such unprovoked violence,” remarked LA District Attorney Nathan Hochman.
Prowell currently faces charges related to carjacking, robbery, and assault with a deadly weapon, along with two counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
He is being held on a bail of $2 million.
