Changes at the Kennedy Center Spark Controversy
Richard Grenell has made several staff promotions at the Kennedy Center, which has led to some complaints from those on the left. Sources from inside the center have noted that the reaction has been so intense that some employees would prefer to leave than work alongside the newly promoted staff members.
This week, 14 promotions were announced, primarily coming from the programming department. This suggests a strong focus on shifting the types of shows presented at the historic venue. “We’re broadening our Kennedy Center programming to include more crowd-pleasers and various options,” stated the vice president of PR, Roma Daravi.
A close source mentioned that about 80% of those who received promotions were already part of the Kennedy Center staff before President Donald Trump and Ambassador Grenell took their roles. Nonetheless, complaints about the changes persist.
Additionally, it seems the left is reacting to the dismissal of three employees from the dance programming department earlier in September. According to insiders, staff had multiple chances to propose new ideas within the center’s evolving framework, but many did not seize those opportunities. The absence of initiative may have prompted management to step in.
On a related note, Nakagawa, who previously participated in the apprenticeship program at Ballet West in Salt Lake City, has been appointed as the new dance director at the Kennedy Center. Nakagawa expressed support for the center’s new direction, highlighting a departure from what they labeled as “radical left-wing ideology of ballet.”
