Numerous skin and hair products withdrawn due to possible serious bacteria risks

The recall of Dermarite Industries hand soap has now broadened to include more than 30 products like deodorants, lotions, shampoos, and hand sanitizers.

This recall began and expanded in July due to concerns that some items may contain Burkholderia Cepacia Complex. The company stated that exposure to this bacteria “can lead to serious, life-threatening infections.”

“In individuals with healthy skin but mild lesions, using affected products can result in local infections. However, for those with weakened immune systems, the bacteria could enter the bloodstream, potentially causing fatal sepsis,” the announcement indicated.

Symptoms of potential bacterial exposure encompass fever, fatigue, and respiratory issues, particularly in those with compromised immune systems, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The affected products were distributed across the U.S., including Puerto Rico.
