Smiling mother left her young children unsupervised at home to smoke marijuana, according to a statement.

A mother in Kentucky was arrested and can be seen laughing in her mug shot after she allegedly left her two young children home alone to smoke. Morgan Chapman, 23, was taken into custody Monday in Pikeville for abandoning her two- and four-year-olds in her apartment while she went outside, reportedly instructing them to keep an eye on the neighbors.

In the mug shot, Chapman is wearing a red and white striped V-neck T-shirt, tilting her head as if posing for a social media picture rather than a police photo.

Police responded to a call about domestic issues at Chapman’s apartment around 9 PM. The remark claimed in the report stated that when officers arrived, they were greeted by two very young children who had opened the door.

A neighbor had allegedly asked Chapman around 5 PM for help to get high, which preceded the police visit. When officers were present, Chapman returned, asserting that she had only left the kids momentarily to visit the neighbor.

The officers detected a strong smell of alcohol on her, and her speech was slurred, according to the complaint.

The children were taken into custody and placed under the care of Chapman’s ex-husband, who later posted on Facebook, implying that he had confronted her about her behavior and was protecting the kids during the situation.

He insisted that the children were safe now and that he was their primary caregiver. Morgan was released on bond, though details about her legal representation remain unclear.
