President Donald Trump’s granddaughter, Kai Trump, shared her reaction to the tragic shooting death of Charlie Kirk on Wednesday.
In a social media post, President Trump confirmed that Kirk was shot during a lecture at Utah Valley University.
Footage from the event showed Kirk addressing a large audience from beneath a white pop-up tent.
Kai Trump expressed her disbelief, sharing on her Instagram story, “I’m deeply saddened to hear the news about Charlie Kirk. My heart goes out to his wife Erica and their two children. He is a close family friend, and our thoughts and prayers are with them in this tragic time.”
The announcement from President Trump came through a social media post at 4:40 PM Wednesday. He remarked, “Even the great and legendary, Charlie Kirk is dead. He understood the minds of the youth of the United States better than anyone.”
Other notable figures have also expressed their sorrow over Kirk’s death. Former NFL quarterbacks Tim Tebow and Brett Favre were among those who reacted.
Tebow wrote on X, “I’m shocked and devastated to learn about Charlie Kirk’s passing.”
Favre commented, “I am confused by the words. It is tragic. Keep Charlie Kirk and his family in your prayers.”
Recently, many former athletes have announced their bids for Parliament, including Julian Edelman and Mark Teixeira, sharing their thoughts and condolences as well.
Kirk participated in the “American Comeback Tour” at Utah Valley University and was set to appear at Utah State University later this month.
Ellen Trenore, the vice president of strategic communications management at Utah Valley University, stated that the incident occurred around 12:20 PM local time, prompting the university to send campus-wide alerts about a single shot fired at a speaker. Police are currently investigating the situation.
Kirk was well-known as a conservative media figure and co-founder of Turning Point USA, an organization promoting conservative political views.
