Actor Billy Baldwin experienced a notable shift after initially calling for unity on social media following the assassination of conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
On the very day that Kirk was killed, Baldwin took to social media, urging calm and togetherness.
“Charlie Kirk was the founder of Turning Point USA,” Baldwin remarked after Kirk’s assassination. “I hope that his death acts as a catalyst for healing, bringing us together in this time marked by division, hatred, and political violence.”
The usual narrative tends to emphasize the left’s calls for “unification,” “non-violence,” and “healing,” especially in the aftermath of violence targeting those with opposing views. Baldwin, however, seemed to contribute to the division just two days later, following an FBI report identifying a suspect in Kirk’s murder.
Once Tyler Robinson was arrested, Baldwin saw this as an opportunity to attack his political rivals.
He stated:
It’s not black.
It’s not a trance.
I’m not a Muslim.
I’m not immigrants.
I’m not a Democrat.
Meet Charlie Kirk’s assassin, Tyler Robinson. A white Christian with a gun, a conservative Republican. Here we go again.
Baldwin’s portrayal seems to fit a pattern, but initial reports suggest that the suspect does not align with the characteristics Baldwin attributes to him. Media sources have linked Robinson to socialist beliefs, and the FBI indicated that his ammunition carried pro-trans and “anti-fascist” messages. Early reports suggest he had recently adopted a more radical stance contrary to the ideas Kirk promoted.
As more details about Robinson’s motivations emerge, it appears increasingly likely that he does not represent the ideology Baldwin ascribes to him.
