Connecticut Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Assault Against Young Girl

A man in Connecticut has made a plea deal after admitting to sexually assaulting a girl who was under his care, ultimately leading to her pregnancy. He served only five years in prison for his crimes.

According to police records, Roger Barrier, 65, from Bristol, repeatedly raped the girl, starting when she was just nine years old. By the time she turned 12, she was pregnant. DNA tests confirmed that he is the father of the girl’s child.

The victim, now an adult, expressed a sense of empowerment, feeling proud to stand up to the man who had abused her for so long. She mentioned feeling hopeful for the first time in years.

Despite the gravity of the situation, Barrier received a plea bargain that subjects him to a 25-year sentence, which could be suspended after 10 years. He is required to serve a minimum of five years in prison, followed by 20 years of probation.

Barrier’s arrest came after the victim reported her experiences to the police in 2023. She noted that the Connecticut Department of Children and Families had placed her in care with the individual who introduced her to Barrier, where she experienced daily assaults.

The victim’s attorney, Nate Baber, pointed out that Barrier was her legal guardian during this time. Estimates from law enforcement suggest that the assaults occurred between 3,800 and 4,000 times.

Interestingly, Barrier’s wife has also been charged with risk of injury to a minor in connection with these events. Baber remarked that the victim feels she has finally received a measure of justice.

Now 30 years old, the victim has filed a multi-million-dollar lawsuit against the Connecticut Department of Children and Families, claiming they neglected to address the ongoing abuse she suffered.

A statement from the department emphasized that they are legally restricted from discussing the case but mentioned they allow victims to correct misleading information about their involvement.

According to reports, as many as 12 children lived in Barrier’s home at one time. The legal proceedings for Barrier will continue, with a court appearance scheduled for November 2025.
