A surgeon in New Jersey allegedly expressed support for the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk.
Lexi Kuenzle, a nurse at Englewood Health, has filed a lawsuit against the hospital in Bergen County Superior Court. In her complaint, she questions how one could adhere to the Hippocratic Oath and the American Medical Association’s ethics while celebrating the death of a peaceful Christian speaker on a college campus.
Kuenzle was at the nurse’s station with several colleagues and patients when news of Kirk’s shooting circulated.
She reportedly reacted, “Oh, my God! That’s terrible! I love him!” This prompted a response from Dr. Jung, who said, “I hate Charlie Kirk. He came. He deserved it.”
Kuenzle recalled challenging him, “You’re a doctor. How can you say someone deserves to die?” She later described feeling both angry and upset at his response.
After reporting the incident to management and sharing it on social media, she was called into a meeting the following day and placed on paid suspension while an investigation was carried out. Union representatives also indicated she should consider looking for new employment.
Kuenzle, a fervent conservative who has been a nurse for ten years, including nearly two at this facility, posted a photo on Instagram with the American flag and a figure of former President Trump.
It’s unclear if Dr. Jung faced any consequences for his remarks on Saturday. He allegedly offered to treat Kuenzle to lunch as a way to lighten the situation, but her lawsuit states that she couldn’t take him up on it due to her suspension.
Kuenzle is seeking unspecified damages.
GOP activist Scott Pressler referred to her as one of “Charlie’s Angels” and questioned whether Dr. Jung could impartially treat patients who hold different political views, stating, “Will he treat them differently? Will he allow his feelings to cloud his judgment?”
