Rescue Superman!
NBA star Shaquille O’Neal has stepped in to cover the funeral expenses for four young girls who tragically lost their lives in a house fire in North Carolina.
Patrick Ellis’s world shattered on August 30 when his daughters—Kalani, Kendall, Josephina, and Sofia, aged 2, 4, 6, and 7—perished in the flames that engulfed their Chadbourn home.
Ellis managed to escape the fire with his 11-year-old daughter, as did her mother, Reagan Powers, who now faces serious legal repercussions.
Powers, who allegedly left the children in the care of the oldest sibling, is charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter and negligent child abuse following the fatal incident.
Amidst this heart-wrenching situation, Shaquille O’Neal offered his support by taking on the financial burden of the girls’ funeral.
“This resonates deeply with all of us—parents, neighbors, and just people,” O’Neal shared in a conversation. “It wasn’t just a gesture. It felt like a moral obligation,” he added, emphasizing the innocence of the lost lives.
The basketball legend reassured the grieving family, stating, “You are not alone in your heartache. We will stand with you and share this burden together.”
O’Neal, who has been involved in charity work through the Henry County Sheriff’s Office since 2021, is helping coordinate support for the Ellis family during this difficult time.
Henry County Sheriff Reginald Scantoret commented on the tragedy, expressing a commitment to help the family feel supported through their journey of grief.
Powers is currently being held on a $400,000 bond, with her next court date scheduled for Thursday.
