Trump’s Upcoming State Visit to the UK

The British royal family is preparing to welcome former President Trump. Buckingham Palace recently confirmed that Trump, along with First Lady Melania, will visit the UK from September 17-19. King Charles III will host them at Windsor Castle.

Notably, Trump is the first U.S. president to receive invitations for two state visits from British monarchs, the first being during Queen Elizabeth II’s reign in 2019.

Royal expert Ingrid Seward mentioned that this state visit holds significant importance, often referred to as the monarchy’s “soft power.” She noted that King Charles is limited in political actions due to constitutional rules.

Seward expressed enthusiasm, stating, “The royal family is particularly excited about this. Trump is quite a charismatic figure, and the late Queen found him amusing.” She added that their meetings often focus on cultural and diplomatic relationships.

During the visit, the couple will participate in various royal traditions, such as military salutes and attending a banquet with approximately 150 guests. Seward indicated that this would likely be a lively event, as Trump’s humorous remarks are usually well-received by the royals, who sometimes find other state visits less engaging.

Also on the itinerary, Trump will pay his respects at St. George’s Chapel, where he plans to leave a wreath at Queen Elizabeth II’s grave. A grand banquet will follow, where guests will experience a carefully curated menu reflective of both British and royal preferences.

Darren McGrady, a former chef to the royals, pointed out the importance of the menu—standard practice involves extensive prior discussions to accommodate dietary preferences. Interestingly, he noted that while the late Queen enjoyed chocolate, King Charles prefers different items, like organic produce and lamb dishes.

As for celebrity attendees, it’s expected that the guest list will include well-known figures, similar to past state visits, where various stars have mingled with royals. Seward remarked, “It’ll be interesting to see who turns up, especially with someone like Trump in the mix.”

The visit extends beyond formalities, as both couples will likely engage in discussions that further strengthen the longstanding “special relationship” between the US and the UK.

A palace aide reiterated that King Charles has known Trump for years and is looking forward to hosting him and the First Lady later this year.
