What a tough break.
Can you picture the discussions and eye rolls among the Pittsburgh Steelers players while reviewing game footage of this? They certainly have a lot to think about after facing off against the Seattle Seahawks in a challenging home game. At one point, the Seahawks led 17-14 in the fourth quarter. After scoring, kicker Jason Myers sent the ball off for a typical kickoff, but it took an unexpected bounce into the end zone.
The closest Steelers player, Caleb Johnson, missed it as it moved right over his hands. Thinking the play would be dead with a touchback, he let it go, but the referees didn’t blow the whistle. In a surprising turn, Seahawks player George Holani dashed in, scooped up the ball, and just like that, they scored a rather bizarre touchdown.
And that’s how Seattle found themselves with an unusual score in just the second week of the season.
The Seahawks recovered kickoff in the end zone for a touchdown!
Don’t feel too down, Pittsburgh. Florida didn’t fare much better, either.
Final: Patriots 33, Dolphins 27
Dolphins drop to 0-2; it could be a long season ahead. Tua Tagovailoa and Tyreek Hill had a solid game, but an interception in the clutch didn’t help Tagovailoa’s cause. It marked the first loss in Miami since 2019.
Final: Bengals 31, Jaguars 27
The Jaguars should have been 2-0; a questionable pass interference call by Travis Hunter changed the game. Plus, the Jaguars receivers simply dropped too many passes, allowing them to lose to a team without Joe Burrow.
But hey, on the bright side, the Steelers still boast more Super Bowl wins than anyone else.
