Inaccurate confession slows down investigation into Charlie Kirk's assassination: police

A man from Utah got himself into a confusing situation after a shooting incident involving Charlie Kirk. George Zinn, 71, mistakenly claimed he was the shooter, which led to chaos as authorities tried to understand what happened. The incident unfolded when police approached Zinn and he shouted, “I shot him, I just shot me,” right after the gunfire was heard.

In the aftermath, the Utah Sheriff’s Office filed four counts of sexual exploitation of minors against Zinn, who had indicated he would search his phone to look at inappropriate material. Following Kirk’s death, Zinn was identified as a suspect despite not being seen with a weapon by the officers. Instead, his erratic behavior during the arrest led to a different narrative circulating online.

Documents reveal that Zinn was handcuffed when he exclaimed he shot Kirk and requested police to “just shoot him.” His unexpected outbursts left many puzzled, especially as social media buzzed with claims about him being the shooter, creating a misleading perception about the investigation.

Footage, apparently showing a suspect near the campus before the incident, has emerged, raising further questions about the timeline. When Zinn reached the police station, he allegedly retreated and called for a lawyer while being questioned. He later admitted that he made the false statement to divert attention away from the actual shooter.

While being examined by a doctor, Zinn expressed discontent, saying he wanted to be a martial artist for those who were harmed. His misleading claims have reportedly hindered the ongoing investigation into Kirk’s assassination, causing law enforcement to waste resources.

In a separate development, Tyler Robinson, 22, was arrested about 33 hours after Kirk’s murder and is set to appear in court soon to face charges related to the case. Meanwhile, Zinn remains detained, facing serious charges, including sexual exploitation of minors and obstruction of justice. The Utah County Sheriff’s Office has yet to provide further comments.
