At the recent UK State Dinner, King Charles commended President Trump for his dedication to peace initiatives, emphasizing the president’s efforts in addressing significant global conflicts.
“Our nations collaborate to enhance crucial diplomatic endeavors. The President, in particular, shows a personal commitment to resolving some of the world’s most challenging disputes to promote peace,” he stated.
The King also reiterated that the US and Britain are unified in their support of Ukraine amid the ongoing conflict with Russia, acknowledging the contributions of their other allies.
“We share an unparalleled commitment in defense, security, and intelligence,” he highlighted. “Throughout the two world wars, we stood together to overcome tyranny. Today, as Europe faces a similar threat, we and our allies are united in supporting Ukraine to halt these aggressions and foster peace.”
Seated next to President Trump at a substantial 155-foot table in St. George Hall were prominent business figures, including Secretary Marco Rubio, Treasury Secretary Scott Bescent, media mogul Rupert Murdoch, and Apple CEO Tim Cook.
The King expressed appreciation for the US trade agreement, marking it as the first related to tariffs from Trump’s second administration, while reminiscing about his visit to the US in 1970 and his enduring connections there. He joked about how, if the media had succeeded in fostering ties back in the 1970s, he might have found himself linked to the Nixon family.
Additionally, he reflected on the lasting “bonds” between the two nations as they approach the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, pondering how the figures from 1776 would perceive the current friendship.
“I often wonder what our ancestors would think about this alliance today,” he remarked. “We celebrate the relationships that neither George Washington nor King George III could have anticipated. Though the ocean still divides us, in many respects, we are now incredibly close.”
Following the King’s remarks, Trump expressed gratitude for the special relations between the US and Britain during his second state visit, mentioning how “special” hardly conveys the depth between the two countries.
“We are tied by a historic bond—faith, love, language, culture, tradition, ancestry, and a shared destiny. It’s as if we are two notes composing a single melody,” he declared.
“In all of history, we’ve given more to humanity as two nations than perhaps anyone else has,” he continued, advocating for the preservation of their remarkable legacy.
In a toast to the King, Trump referred to him as “one of the great friendships” and praised him as “a very, very special man.” He described the honor of being at the dinner as one of the greatest of his life, showing deep respect for him and his country.
Trump also shared warm sentiments about Prince William and expressed well-wishes for Princess Kate, noting her health was “very shining, very healthy and beautiful.”
After the festivities at Windsor Castle, Trump is set to travel to Checkers Estate on Thursday morning, following a scheduled bilateral meeting with the Prime Minister of Kiel.
