Ohio Man Arrested for Impersonation at Local School
A 27-year-old from Ohio was taken into police custody on Sunday, as reported by local news.
Caleb Gilet Alexander, from Columbus, was apprehended by Norwich police after an investigation that started at the Norwich YMCA. During this time, he allegedly acted rudely to staff and possessed several fake identification cards.
Afterward, Alexander proceeded to Norwich High School, where he registered as a student using a fictitious name, birth date, and address to gain access to the premises. School officials noticed discrepancies and alerted law enforcement.
Eventually, an officer spoke with Alexander, leading to his arrest. Investigators discovered he had a significant warrant out of Ohio linked to charges involving robbery and impersonating a police officer. Authorities from Ohio have indicated they would seek his extradition.
“While we can’t say for sure what Alexander’s intentions were, the staff at Norwich City Schools did an outstanding job recognizing something was amiss,” a police spokesperson noted. “Our detectives acted promptly on the lead, and patrol officers were able to locate the suspect.” Meanwhile, it appears there is no evidence to suggest that any students were harmed during the incident.
As of now, Alexander is held in custody, awaiting an extradition hearing, and police are still trying to ascertain his motives.
