Jimmy Kimmel’s Predictions After Trump Wins

In Washington, Jimmy Kimmel appeared to foresee his own departure from television just a day after Donald Trump secured victory in the 2024 election.

Taking an “indefinite” break from his show, Kimmel spoke with his collaborator Guillermo on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” The sketch was recorded following Vice President Kamala Harris’s significant defeats to Trump last November.

“I can’t stay for another four years of this. Who knows what he might do?” Kimmel shared. “You heard him; he mentioned having a list of enemies. Do you really think I’m not on that list?”

Guillermo Rodriguez responded, “Jimmy, we need you to help us through this. Your voice is important.”

“Should I?” Kimmel pondered. “Maybe you’re right.”

Following that exchange, Kimmel delivered a ten-minute monologue expressing deep concern over Trump’s election. He described it as a “horrifying night” for many, including workers, women, children, and the nation as a whole, touching on topics such as healthcare, science, and free speech.

“It was a terrible night for the poor and middle class, seniors reliant on social security, our Ukrainian allies, and democracy itself,” he continued in a somber tone.

“And let’s not forget, it also wasn’t great for those who voted against him. It was a bad night for everyone, even those who supported him. You just might not see that yet.”

After a joke about potentially sharing a prison cell with Taylor Swift, Kimmel remarked, “We’ll see how funny this all seems in six months when the effects start to hit.”

Months went by, and ABC executives ultimately pulled Kimmel from the airwaves. His ratings had started slipping soon after the election as his critiques of Trump continued.

According to Nielsen ratings for “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”, viewership fell to just 1.1 million in August 2025, a sharp decline from 1.95 million in January, placing it behind other late-night programs.

Kimmel’s household rating dropped to 0.35 during that month, and among viewers aged 18 to 49, the numbers fell even further.

In August, he averaged only 129,000 viewers, down from 212,000 in January, continuing a downward trend.

In a recent monologue, Kimmel discussed the tragic murder of Charlie Kirk at a university event. He stated, “We hit some new lows over the weekend. The Magagangs are trying to frame this kid who killed Charlie Kirk as one of their own and score political points from it.”

Kirk, age 31, was fatally shot on September 10th during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University, while a 22-year-old suspect connected to a radical group was arrested shortly after.

Utah Governor Spencer Cox commented to the Wall Street Journal that the suspect had embraced “Left ideology.”

Even with a contract set to run until May 2026, following a three-year extension in 2022, Kimmel was unexpectedly removed from the show right before it aired on Wednesday night.

The late-night host, with a salary of $16 million per year, showed no intention to apologize for his controversial comments, a point of contention for Disney CEO Bob Iger and TV head Dana Walden.

Kimmel reportedly informed the executives that he planned to address his remarks in future monologues.
