ABC Suspends “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Indefinitely

On September 18, ABC announced the indefinite suspension of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” This decision follows controversial remarks made by host Jimmy Kimmel related to the assassination of Charlie Kirk, which he discussed on September 10.

During a September 16 episode, Kimmel remarked, “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the Magga gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who is doing everything he can to kill Charlie Kirk as something other than them and score political points from there.”

These comments, filled with animosity and inaccuracies, sparked backlash from Brendan Kerr, the chair of the FCC, prompting major affiliates like Nexstar and Sinclair to pull the show from their schedules.

Some on the left have suggested that the government pressured ABC to take such actions, framing it as a form of censorship. People familiar with Kerr have expressed skepticism about these claims. Kerr himself has stated, “I want you to know that the government is not involved in this. The government should not be involved in this at all.”

Kerr’s comments evoke a sense of sarcasm about the alleged censorship by the Liberal Party, especially considering past actions during the administrations of Biden and Obama, where social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter were reportedly pressured to silence conservative voices.

Statements from Republicans imply that the current suspension might be influenced by the Trump administration, raising questions about the left’s stance on government overreach.

“Now, you can say these companies are afraid of Donald Trump. Well, ABC says they should be afraid,” Glenn, a commentator, noted. He argues that Kimmel, and others like him, should be held accountable not through government intervention but within the framework of the courts.

While Kimmel’s current situation seems warranted, Glenn argues that the content regarding Kirk’s alleged killer, Tyler Robinson, isn’t even comedic but rather misleading. He insists that, “More than ever, it’s clear that ABC is agenda-driven.”

Nonetheless, he reiterates that the FCC should not be involved. He believes that grassroots markets ought to thrive independently of large organizations funded by taxpayer money.
