Erika Kirk, the widow of Charlie Kirk, expressed her forgiveness toward the man charged with murdering her husband last Sunday.

In her words, “On the cross, our Savior said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.’ I forgive him.”

Tyler Robinson, 22, faces first-degree aggravated murder charges following the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk on September 10th. During a press conference on Tuesday, Utah County Attorney General Jeff Gray announced that the state intends to pursue the death penalty for Robinson.

Erika mentioned in an interview that she prefers the legal system to decide Robinson’s fate rather than her personal feelings. “I told my lawyer I want the government to handle this. I don’t want to be the one with blood on my hands,” she explained.

During her emotional tribute on Sunday, where she received a standing ovation, Erika reiterated her beliefs. “The answer to hatred is not hatred,” she said. “The answer we know from the gospel is love, and it always is love.”

Reflecting on her relationship with Charlie, she recounted the shock and heartache she felt upon seeing him after the tragic event. “I couldn’t even comprehend the level of heartache I experienced,” she admitted. However, she added, “I was able to see the man I love,” which she described as a profound revelation of God’s mercy in the midst of her sorrow.

Erika shared that God’s love has been a source of strength since Charlie’s death. She remembered a poignant moment with Second Lady Usha Vance, who flew to Utah to support her right after the tragedy. The conversation, where Vance compared their journey to managing a last flight segment, resonated deeply with Erika. “I don’t think you realized how much I needed those words,” she said.

This past Thursday, Erika was appointed as the new CEO of Turning Point USA, the organization her husband founded in 2012. In her role, she aims to carry on his legacy. “The world needs Turning Point USA,” she asserted. “We need to guide young people away from paths of misery and sin.”

The couple, who married in 2021 and have two young children, held the memorial service at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, where they resided near Scottsdale.

“I miss him. I miss him so much,” Erika said softly, reflecting on the beauty of their marriage and family. “They are still beautiful.”
