Energy organizations commend Trump's actions on nuclear as New York climate gathering begins.

Energy organizations are backing President Trump’s recent support for nuclear energy as Climate Week kicks off in New York City.

Trump is running on a promise to maximize the nation’s energy capabilities. He has already implemented several measures aimed at enhancing nuclear power in the U.S. Energy organizations are gaining traction, particularly with locales like New York now more receptive to nuclear energy.

“President Trump has completely reshaped the conversation around nuclear energy,” stated Jason Isaac, CEO of the American Institute of Energy.

“This is about taking charge of our energy future, offering more domestic resources, reliable power around the clock, and driving down electricity costs for families and businesses,” he continued.

In June, New York Governor Kathy Hochul directed the state’s Power Authority to establish at least one new nuclear facility, projecting to generate significant gigawatts of electricity. Hochul emphasized the need for energy strategies that prioritize abundance and independence.

Earlier this month, Oklo Inc., a company from California, revealed plans to construct three modular nuclear reactors in Tennessee as part of a $1.7 billion project that aims to transform nuclear waste into fuel.

This development comes after the Trump administration made moves to bolster nuclear energy resources in the country.

In May, Trump issued an executive order aiming to increase compensation for nuclear power generation, which included easing health and environmental regulations.

He stated that the government should “utilize every capability to fast-track safe and responsible development and enhance U.S. exports to leverage advanced nuclear technology for American benefit.”

“President Trump, along with his administration’s team, has changed the narrative from unfounded fears to embracing climate and energy potential, presenting new opportunities for Americans,” noted Steve Milloy, a senior policy fellow in Energy and Environmental Law.

“The acceptance of safe and affordable nuclear energy is a significant part of this shift, illustrating a reduction in the pervasive fear that once influenced leaders and the public.”

Trump is set to be in New York City on Tuesday for a UN General Assembly event, aligning with Climate Week NYC, a yearly gathering of various leaders focused on advancing clean technology and combating climate change.

Expected speakers include European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Kenyan President William Root, and energy officials from Denmark, Australia, among others.

“This is a crucial year for climate action. It’s inspiring to see businesses, governments, and the broader climate community stepping up to demonstrate ongoing global climate initiatives,” commented Clarkson.

“Our theme this year is ‘power-on,’ highlighting the need to remain focused and ambitious. New York City embodies that spirit, positioning this year’s Climate Week to be incredibly impactful.”
