Carson takes office as national advisor for nutrition, health, and housing at USDA

Dr. Ben Carson Sworn in as National Advisor to USDA

Dr. Ben Carson, a former neurosurgeon and secretary of the Housing and Urban Development during Donald Trump’s presidency, has officially assumed the role of national advisor on nutrition, health, and housing for the USDA. He was sworn in on Wednesday.

In this capacity, he will consult with both President Trump and Secretary Rollins on initiatives regarding nutrition, rural healthcare quality, and housing accessibility. Carson is expected to be a prominent voice in this division, collaborating closely with USDA’s Rural Development Mission Regional Leadership as he works on the President’s Make America Healthy Agenda Committee.

Trump to Honor Carson with Medal of Freedom

At a recent dinner hosted by the American Cornerstone Institute, Trump revealed his intention to award Carson the Presidential Medal of Freedom, planning a White House ceremony to celebrate his achievements.

Back in 2008, George W. Bush had previously honored Carson with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, reflecting his long-standing recognition in public service.

During the dinner, Trump mentioned that Carson has been a champion for addressing malnutrition, emphasizing the urgent need for sensible policies that can help vulnerable families thrive. “I am honored to work with Secretary Rollins on these significant initiatives that align with President Trump’s vision for a healthier America,” Carson stated.

Earlier this year, Trump had also signed an executive order that created the Religious Freedom Committee, appointing Carson as its vice-chairman, further solidifying his role in the administration’s initiatives.

Reflecting on Carson’s background, the ACI website mentions that he is dedicated to fighting for fundamental principles such as faith, freedom, community, and life, aiming to make the country a better place.
