Shooting at Ice Facility in Dallas Raises Concerns
Details are still emerging regarding an incident where gunmen targeted an ice facility in Dallas on Wednesday morning.
Todd Lyons, the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is set to provide updates on the investigation during an episode of “The Glenn Beck Program” on Thursday. He plans to address the broader issue of violence in the current climate.
During a discussion with Beck, Lyons noted, “I’ve never seen anything like this in my career.” He emphasized that despite the violence, law enforcement remains resolute in their duties. Lyons expressed admiration for the courage shown by officers in the field.
Lyons clarified that, while he cannot disclose findings from the ongoing investigation, he sought to correct misinformation circulating in the media. He described the shooter’s actions as a targeted assault against ICE, highlighting that this attack reflected an “anti-ICE” motivation. As he stated, “He didn’t know who was in the car,” implying a focus on ICE enforcement rather than specific individuals.
The conversation also touched on the Trump administration’s measures against left-wing extremism, particularly referencing remarks made by the John Brown Gun Club. Lyons critiqued some activists, suggesting that many of them are “professionals” disconnected from the communities they claim to represent.
Additionally, Lyons addressed a controversial report involving a recent arrest. He clarified that during an attempt to apprehend a suspected individual, law enforcement encountered a five-year-old autistic girl left alone in a vehicle. The circumstances surrounding her father’s actions during the incident drew media scrutiny, with NBC later amending its portrayal of the event.
In the interview, Beck pressed Lyons regarding California Governor Gavin Newsom’s comments labeling ICE as “authoritarian.” Lyons countered that such statements were misguided and underscored the safety challenges faced by law enforcement officers.
U.S. attorneys are expected to convene a press conference on Thursday afternoon to share further developments in the case.
