The US Border Patrol is set to add four marine patrol vessels aimed at enhancing operations in Chicago. This addition will allow agents to access Lake Michigan and the Chicago River.
This initiative aims to support efforts to apprehend the “worst of the worst” by granting border patrols access to key transit areas within the Chicago River channels. This deployment will bolster cooperation with other federal agencies involved in immigration enforcement known as Midway Blitz. With three new patrol boats, border security can respond swiftly to various locations as needed.
In a conversation with Breitbart Texas, Gregory K. Bovino, Chief Patrol Agent for the El Centro Sector, shared insights from the ground in Chicago. Bovino, who oversees California’s operations within Customs and Border Protection’s extensive immigration enforcement efforts, believes this initiative will enhance the agency’s response capabilities on Chicago’s waterways.
Bovino expressed positive feedback from Chicago’s community members, saying, “I’ve spoken with residents in Downtown and they’ve been quite supportive of our presence here.”
With nearly 30 years of experience in the Border Patrol, he noted that residents of sanctuary cities like Chicago and Los Angeles should not have to endure the consequences of illegal immigrants who have committed violent crimes and are released back into the community.
“For the people of Chicago, it’s unjust to live in constant fear of crime in their neighborhoods,” Bovino stressed. “We are obligated to enforce national immigration laws and target serious offenders, regardless of local leaders who choose to protect criminals.”
The Department of Homeland Security initiated Operation Midway Blitz earlier in September to honor Katie Abraham, a US citizen who lost her life in a hit-and-run incident caused by an undocumented individual, Julio Kakuru Bol. According to a DHS announcement, this operation addresses policies that allow dangerous criminals to remain free on the streets.
DHS Deputy Director Tricia McLaughlin remarked on the launch of the operation.
For years, Governor Pritzker and his sanctuary city allies have released gang members and criminals into Chicago’s streets. President Trump and Secretary Noem have a clear stance: cities cannot be safe havens for illegal immigrants. If you enter our country unlawfully and break our laws, we will find you, arrest you, and ensure you cannot return.
