Trump Claims Crockett Overstepped With Recent ICE Comments

Trump Criticizes Democrat for ICE Comments

During a press conference on Thursday, President Donald Trump expressed that Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett “crossed the line” with her remarks regarding U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

Crockett, when she appeared on The Breakfast Club in September, compared ICE to a “slave patrol” and described it as an “illegal police force.” This led Daily Caller White House correspondent Reagan Reese to ask Trump if such comments should have consequences for Congressional members. “I think she crossed the line,” Trump responded. He commented on the Democrats, saying they’ve become “radical left-handed madman” and have a policy that, in his view, no one supports. Regarding New York, he mentioned, “It’s split, so maybe there’s a communist mayor,” suggesting that if people unify under one candidate, they might stand a chance, although he seemed uncertain.

“When I left New York to become president, it was a great place. But it started going downhill with de Blasio as mayor. This guy is bad—a real nut job. It was just the beginning, and now we might be moving towards something even worse.” He added, “Honestly, if the Communists take over New York City, it could actually benefit Republicans. It’s unfortunate for New York, but perhaps they need a jolt to set things right. Politically, it might turn out to be a good thing.”

Officials from Trump’s administration have consistently cautioned against the negative rhetoric surrounding ICE, pointing out the increased danger for agents. Tricia McLaughlin, a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security, remarked that “dangerous rhetoric contributes to ICE law enforcement officials facing an over 1000% increase in assaults against them during enforcement activities.”

Beyond Crockett’s comparison, Democratic Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has also branded ICE as “a modern Gestapo.” In addition, New York State Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has long opposed the Trump administration’s deportation policies, even creating a video in January to guide illegal immigrants on how to interact with ICE agents.

In a concerning incident, shooters targeted an ICE facility in Dallas on Wednesday, with authorities naming 29-year-old Joshua Yarn as the suspect responsible for at least two deaths before turning the gun on himself. FBI Director Kash Patel later shared a photo of shell casings from the scene, which bore the engraving “Anti-Ice.”

This shooting followed a previous incident involving bomb threats at the same Texas facility in August, as well as attacks on other ICE locations in the state in July. ICE agents are facing ongoing threats in California, as well, with DHS pursuing charges against groups that have assaulted officers and threatened their families during operations in San Francisco.
