The indictment of Comey marks the start of making corrupt officials responsible.

The indictment of Comey marks the start of making corrupt officials responsible.

Former FBI Director James Comey faces charges for lying to Congress and obstructing its investigations.

These charges may only scratch the surface of what he might eventually face. This initial move seems to target a so-called “judicial division,” indicating a shift to pursue retribution against political rivals, especially in light of President Trump’s controversial use of the Justice Department.

Senator Elizabeth Warren expressed her disapproval, stating, “Using the judicial system to chase political enemies is what dictators do.”

Senator Chris Murphy remarked that we are in a constitutional crisis and it’s time for political leaders to make a choice: “Democracy or dictatorship.”

Representative Jamie Raskin, a member of the Jan. 6 committee, argued that the indictment represents part of Trump’s ongoing “anger and revenge campaign.”

A commentator from ABC has claimed that “the norm has been crushed.”

Where were they?

It seems these individuals have overlooked the Department of Justice’s potential misuse, the January 6 Committee’s activities, and various state prosecutors who collaborated during the past four years.

Do they genuinely believe the American public is blind to their hypocrisy?

Do they think we’ve forgotten their recurring mantras over the previous years?

The situation is quite clear.

On September 30, 2020, Comey testified before Congress, refusing to let reporters access information related to the leaked Trump-Russia investigation, known as Crossfire Hurricane.

He allegedly lied under oath and is accused of obstructing Congressional investigations.

The entire Crossfire Hurricane inquiry has recently been undermined, with criminal referrals from the Director of National Intelligence revealing significant issues.

Furthermore, the controversial use of a general warrant targeting Trump and his supporters has been spotlighted by a recently disclosed document from Senator Chuck Grassley.

This makes it challenging to take new leftist concerns about the misuse of law enforcement under Trump seriously.

However, it’s essential to clarify. The indictment against Comey (and possibly others) should not be equated with a moral balance.

Those charged who worked to hold Trump accountable are not seeking revenge; it’s about justice.

The narrative surrounding the “Russian Conspiracy” was a hoax from the beginning, funded by Hillary Clinton’s campaign through her law firm Perkins Coie.

This payment was misrepresented in campaign finance disclosures as “legal compliance,” effectively obscuring Clinton’s involvement through a former British spy claiming to have colluded with Moscow in the 2016 election.

High-ranking officials from the Obama administration sought a FISA warrant to surveil a member of Trump’s campaign, subsequently doing considerable harm to advisor Carter Page.

Crocodile’s tears

This entire saga also includes dubious claims regarding Trump’s communications about a Ukrainian company connected to Joe Biden, alongside baseless allegations of election interference in 2020 targeting many individuals, including electors and lawyers.

So, if we seem unmoved by the outrage regarding Comey’s prosecution, we hope you’ll understand.

Holding him and others accountable for legal system abuses aligns with what Americans voted for last November.

We’re looking ahead to what’s next.

John C. Eastman is a senior fellow at the Claremont Institute. He previously acted as one of President Trump’s attorneys during the 2020 elections and is dealing with legal challenges in Georgia and Arizona, causing some confusion in California.
