Oklahoma Councilwoman Steps Down After Telling Trump Supporter to End Her Life

City Councillor Resigns After Controversial Facebook Remarks

This week, a city councillor from the Oklahoma City suburbs stepped down following a troubling Facebook exchange in which she urged Trump supporters to end their lives.

Brie Danie Montoya, a councillor in Norman, resigned after a performance that gained attention on TikTok. Reports indicated that her controversial comments, made several months ago, came to light after she was absent from the city council discussions.

The interactions date back to June, when Montoya and a fellow councillor, Audra Abbott, engaged in a Facebook discussion about an anti-Trump protest labeled “No Kings.”

In that exchange, Montoya remarked to Abbott, “I was there, it must be your Magazine Mathematics!” and added, “Bless your uneducated heart.” Abbott replied, sarcastically, “Yes, I’m sure I was in the crowd.”

The conversation escalated with Montoya’s harsh response: “Open your vein,” she said. “I continued, I put the gun in my mouth and pulled the trigger.”

Norman, a city with around 130,000 residents, is located just south of Oklahoma City’s state capitol.

Abbott, in a call shared by Libs in TikTok, expressed disbelief that such interactions from city officials made it to social media.

At a council meeting, Montoya announced her resignation, stating, “In many different capacities, I have served this community since 2008. I am ready to pursue other interests,” thanking the residents of her district.

The audience’s applause was mixed; it wasn’t clear whether they were honoring her service or celebrating her departure.

Chaya Raichik, who hosts the viral TikTok segment, remarked that it’s crucial for elected officials like Montoya to be accountable for incendiary rhetoric, emphasizing that the media often overlooks rising violence from both political extremes.

Abbott mentioned to a Fox affiliate that she was shocked to discover the councillor’s identity after their online exchange, stating, “Wow, I can’t believe an elected official would talk about it online like that.”
