Kappa Studio Receives GMA Nominations for Family-Friendly Films and Shows
Kappa Studio, a post-production house located in Burbank, California, is dedicated to faith and family entertainment. The studio is preparing for the Gospel Music Association (GMA) Dove Award nominations taking place on October 7th.
The nominated films include “Reagan,” featuring Dennis Quaid, a Golden Globe nominee, and “For The One,” a documentary starring Brandon Lake and Fillal Wickham. Lauren Graham, known for her roles in “The Best Christmas Pageant” and “Gilmore Girls,” also stars in a nominated project.
Among the nominated television shows are “God. Family. Football.” and the drama series “House of David.” Another highlight is “The Chosen,” which has amassed over 600 million viewers globally.
Paul Long, the founder and president of Kappa Studios, expressed his gratitude, saying, “I see this as an epic answer to what God did. He’s done something pretty flashy. We’re full of gratitude.”
The studio shifted its focus to faith-based content in 2016, aiming to enhance its reputation without abandoning biblical truths. Brad Silverman, Chief Content Officer, mentioned their commitment to “not doing anything that we felt dishonorable” to God.
Looking forward, Silverman compared the surprise of their nomination to how children often don’t recognize their daily growth. “We were blinded by it,” he said, reflecting on the journey of the studio.
Both Long and Silverman are inspired to tell stories that are historically accurate and grounded in scripture. They believe that success is not solely defined by ratings, even though they note a staggering viewer count for “The Chosen.”
Long emphasized their mission: to bring hope through uplifting stories. “Now there is no hope in culture. People are running around. We often get love, joy, peace, and no one gets it. They can’t steal it. You can’t buy it,” he remarked.
Kappa Studios has garnered interest from various creators aiming to serve a spiritual audience. Long recounted how Dennis Quaid initially hesitated to take on the role in “Reagan” until persuaded to do so.
Long acknowledged the challenges actors face, like mortgage payments, and reassured them that they would be supported in their decisions. He stated, “What we always say to them is, ‘I think you know what to do. We pray with you, but you decide. God shows you what to do.'”
Kappa Studios prioritizes projects that align with its mission—if something doesn’t fit, they refuse it, acknowledging a cost for such choices. Long expressed optimism for their genre’s growth, stating, “I think the sky is at the limit right now because this genre really picks up steam.” He concluded by highlighting their commitment to obedience, saying, “The door may be closed tomorrow, but if it is open today, I would like to use it for God’s glory.”
