Fetterman Discusses Study on 'Left-Wing Terrorism' Hitting Record Highs in 30 Years

Fetterman Recognizes Surge in Left-Wing Terrorism

Senator John Fetterman (D-PA) recently highlighted research indicating that left-wing terrorism has reached a “thirty-year high.” He expressed concern over Democrats using inflammatory language like “Hitler” and “fascists.”

In a post on X, Fetterman shared screenshots from an Axios article titled “Study: Left Terrorism Rises to 30-Year High.” He emphasized that “political violence is always wrong” and urged for a collective effort to “lower the temperature.”

Fetterman mentioned, “Extreme rhetoric—like calling people Hitler or fascists—can lead to dangerous outcomes. Political violence is never acceptable; there are no exceptions.” He reinforced the need for everyone to remain calm.

The Axios article, based on a study by the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), found that in the first half of 2025, incidents of far-right violence—which often occur more frequently—had notably declined.

CSIS “edited and analyzed” data on 750 domestic attacks and plots from January 1, 1994, to July 4, 2025. The findings indicated that since 2016, “left extremists” were behind more than 40 attacks, while right-wing extremists accounted for 152 attacks.

  • Since 2016, left-wing extremists have committed 41 attacks compared to 152 by far-right groups.
  • Left-wing violence has resulted in 13 fatalities in the last decade, in contrast to 112 deaths from right-wing violence and 82 from jihadist incidents.
  • Yet, at least five left-wing attacks or plots have been documented this year, compared to just one associated with the right.

The study followed the assassination of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk on September 10, which occurred during a Q&A with students at Utah Valley University.

Breitbart News reported that Utah Governor Spencer Cox (R) disclosed that the “rifle bullet casing” found at the scene bore messages like “Hey fascist! Catch!”

Following Kirk’s assassination, some Democrats, including California Governor Gavin Newsom, continued to label officials from the Trump administration as “fascists,” targeting figures such as White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller.
