Planned Shooting at North Carolina Bar Leaves Three Dead

Authorities reported that a shooting over the weekend at a popular bar in North Carolina was premeditated, resulting in three fatalities and five injuries.

The incident occurred on Saturday, September 27, at the American Fish Company in Southport, which is located along the waterfront. This venue, known locally for its scenic views, was also featured in the movie “Safe Haven,” based on Nicholas Sparks’ novels, which adds to its significance in the community.

According to investigators, 40-year-old Nigel Max Edge was found in a boat near the restaurant, from where he opened fire during a time when live music was being played, and patrons were enjoying the outdoor atmosphere. Witnesses described a chaotic scene as people fled for safety while gunfire erupted.

Edge was apprehended about half an hour later by law enforcement, who used a boat ramp to intercept him without further trouble. Officials have reassured the public that there is no ongoing threat to the community.

“This attack was not random; it was meticulously planned,” said police chief Todd Coring during a press briefing.

The suspect, identified as Edge, has stated that he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and is a decorated military veteran. He served in Iraq and received a Purple Heart. However, details from Edge’s past reveal a troubled individual. In a dismissed federal lawsuit, he made serious and bizarre accusations against various parties, including his own parents.

On March 12 of this year, a federal court dismissed the lawsuit, citing that it lacked a legal foundation despite Edge’s extraordinary claims. The case was officially closed without any further action.

In this recent attack, Edge is charged with three counts of first-degree murder and five counts of first-degree attempted murder, along with several counts of assault with a deadly weapon. The district attorney indicated that many of the victims were not local residents but were vacationing in the area at the time.

Neighboring businesses, including the American Fish Company, have expressed their condolences and announced they will remain closed indefinitely in light of the tragedy. “Our hearts are broken; our prayers are with the victims and their families,” the company stated.

As investigations continue, multiple agencies, including the Southport Police and the Coast Guard, are conducting forensic evaluations and autopsies to gather more information on this shocking event.
