Trump Unveils 20-Point Plan to End Gaza War

In New York, President Donald Trump introduced a new 20-point strategy on Monday to address the ongoing conflict in Gaza, which has intensified since October 7, 2023. The proposal, described as a way to foster peace, reportedly aims to create a “derailed zone of fear” for Hamas while keeping the area secure from returning to its residents.

The document suggests that if both parties agree, Israeli forces will retreat to a pre-established line as part of the efforts to release hostages. Importantly, all military actions—such as air and artillery strikes—would be paused until a full, stepwise withdrawal occurs.

According to the plan, Israel will release its remaining hostages, regardless of their status, within 72 hours of accepting the agreement. Following that, 250 life sentences will be commuted, and around 1,700 Gazaans held since October 7 will be freed, as outlined in a key point of the proposal.

The strategy emphasizes that Hamas members willing to disarm and pursue peace will receive amnesty. “Once all hostages are returned, those in Hamas who agree to coexistence and abandon weapons will be pardoned,” the document states. Members wishing to exit Gaza would be granted safe passage to other nations.

So far, Hamas has not accepted the agree. Trump issued a stark warning implying that if terrorist factions reject the offer, further violence would be inevitable. “Israel will have my unwavering support to tackle the Hamas threat,” he remarked during a press conference. His hope, however, is to negotiate a lasting peace deal. “If Hamas continues to resist reasonable options, they’ll remain isolated. Others have acknowledged this possibility, and there’s optimism about a constructive response.”

In a joint press conference, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that if Hamas doesn’t comply, Israel would take unilateral action. “If they refuse your proposals or try to undermine them, Israel will act decisively on its own,” he asserted.

A previous 21-point peace initiative was also relayed at the United Nations, coinciding with Israeli military operations significantly beyond its borders—a notable escalation of reach.

Meanwhile, Trump discussed his vision during meetings with Arab leaders at a UN General Assembly event in early September, focusing on peace and the pressing need to address the situation in Gaza. He also brought up plans for dialogue among various stakeholders in the region.

Following these discussions, Saudi Arabian representatives pushed Trump to commit to halting Israel’s West Bank annexation talks, deeming the dialogue productive.

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, addressing a UN gathering while under travel restrictions, expressed his backing for a peaceful resolution, emphasizing unity in pursuing a strategy with regional partners. He stated that the Palestinian Authority is ready to govern Gaza but insists that Hamas must disarm.

Expressing hope for resilience, he declared, “The Palestinian flag will fly high as a symbol of our freedom. This is our homeland, and we will not abandon it.”

Even with these diplomatic overtures, Israel has ramped up offensive operations targeting Iranian-backed militias. Recent Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) actions have been confirmed, marking a significant escalation, with reports suggesting numerous strikes against targets linked to these groups.

Israeli Defense Minister Katz noted that their offensives had significantly impacted the Houthi regime, claiming many operatives were eliminated and substantial weapon stockpiles were destroyed, thus pledging continued assertiveness against threats to their security.
