JD Vance Shares Schumer and Jeffries' Responses to Trump's '2028' Hat Joke

Vance Comments on Schumer’s Reaction and Trump 2028 Hat

Vice President JD Vance discussed the interactions between New York Democrat Sen. Chuck Schumer and his fellow Democrats, particularly in relation to a Trump 2028 hat that surfaced during Wednesday’s “Fox and Friends.”

Trump shared an image of the hat, which was notably displayed during a meeting Schumer had with Rep. Hakeem Jeffreys on Tuesday about a short-term spending bill aimed at avoiding a government shutdown. When asked about the negotiations by co-host Ainsley Earhardt, hosts Brian Kilmeade and Lawrence Jones brought up the hat as well.

“Thank you, Lawrence, that’s a key point. The hats for Trump 2028 made the minority leaders in both the House and Senate pretty uneasy,” Vance remarked, laughing at the inquiries from Jones and Kilmeade. “It was just four of us, along with the president, and we had a productive discussion regarding healthcare policy. However, the president ultimately kept his distance from the issue, wanting to resolve it for Americans without resorting to a government shutdown.”

Vance added, “We must remember that their initial proposal last week was to allocate a significant amount of healthcare funding to illegal aliens. You don’t negotiate that way, holding the U.S. economy hostage. It’s absurd to tell the president that if he doesn’t concede to everything, there will be a government shutdown.”

On Tuesday, the Senate failed to pass a seven-week continuous resolution, not securing the 60 votes needed to overcome the Democratic filibuster. The House had passed a Short-Term Funds Bill on September 19th.

Democrats are pushing for over $1 trillion in funding for various priorities, including restoring funds for public broadcasting that were cut in a retirement package passed last July.
