Missouri Man Charged with Murdering His Mother Over Inheritance Dispute
A Missouri man is facing serious charges after authorities say he killed his mother with a gardening tool amid a dispute over inheritance. Derrick Alling, 39, has been charged with first-degree murder and armed criminal action, according to court documents.
On the evening of September 25th, Christian County deputies responded to a welfare check at the home of 65-year-old Carolyn Allelling. The call had come from her husband—Derrick’s stepfather—who reported she hadn’t been answering her phone. Upon arrival, deputies met Derrick and began questioning him about his mother’s whereabouts.
As the conversation unfolded, deputies sensed something was off. “They just felt something was not completely right and they acted on it,” explained Sheriff Brad Cole. Unfortunately, their instincts turned out to be correct.
When questioned, Derrick allegedly claimed Carolyn was in a guesthouse on their property but seemed unable to provide details about her well-being. He even expressed uncertainty about her living status, saying he “doesn’t think so.”
Authorities continued their investigation and eventually discovered Carolyn’s body in the guesthouse.
According to reports, before the incident, Derrick had allegedly threatened his mother regarding her inheritance. Court documents indicate she had previously recorded instances of Derrick’s aggressive and violent behavior towards her leading up to her death. It’s troubling, really, how familial tensions can escalate like this.
Carolyn, a licensed dental hygienist, had a life that included living in California with her husband and two children. Now, her unfortunate death adds another layer to the complexity of family dynamics and disputes over money.
Derrick has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is expected to appear in court again on October 14th. Meanwhile, there’s been no immediate word from the Christian County Sheriff’s Office on the case.
