Detective suspended for pretending to be on Trump's security detail at Ryder Cup

New York police have confirmed that a detective was suspended without pay after he allegedly tried to sneak into the Ryder Cup. Detective Melvin Eng was reportedly at the tournament held at Bethpage Black on Friday, while claiming to be on sick leave. He showed up wearing tactical gear at a Long Island golf course.

According to reports, Eng has come under investigation for potential theft of services. He seemed to slip up when he dropped a magazine while working in a security capacity. One source mentioned that Eng had some previous connections with layers of security, which added to the oddity of the situation.

The Ryder Cup began on Friday and fans were encouraged to arrive early due to thorough security checks, reminiscent of airport screenings, especially given former President Trump’s attendance.

On that Friday, Trump made his entry and was met with recognition from members of both teams. Captain of Team USA, Keegan Bradley, even made light of the atmosphere by dancing with a vintage playing card.

Later that day, Trump was spotted shaking hands with golfer Bryson DeChambeau as they made their way to the first tee—a somewhat unusual sight considering Trump had previously featured on DeChambeau’s YouTube channel.

As the event progressed, the European team emerged victorious, winning by a score of 15-13, mainly due to their strong performance on the earlier days of the tournament. They led considerably by 11.5 to 4.5 going into the singles matches on Sunday, yet the American team put up a commendable fight, trying to close the gap.

This marks a historical moment as Europe became the first team to win the Ryder Cup on foreign soil since 2012, and the first to secure consecutive victories since they achieved three wins in a row between 2010 and 2014.
