Security Guard Arrested After Chokehold Incident in Baltimore

Authorities have reported that the security guard who was filmed putting a man in a chokehold outside a Baltimore restaurant has turned himself in to the police.

Kevin Weaver, 41, was taken into custody on Wednesday and charged with first-degree aggravated assault after he approached the Baltimore Police Department. He made a statement regarding the incident.

The viral video shows Weaver taking hold of a man outside the Cross Street Public House restaurant, wrapping his arms tightly around the man’s neck during an altercation on Saturday night.

The victim, a student from Loyola University Maryland, was seen struggling to free himself while being dragged off the street, still trapped in the chokehold.

Witnesses in the crowd appeared shocked as the events unfolded, with some calling out, “Tap tap, let him go,” and “Yo! Relax.”

Another individual, dressed in a security uniform, intervened by helping to break up the chokehold, as depicted in the footage. This video has since racked up over 9.6 million views on X.

The specifics of what triggered the confrontation remain unclear.

Isaac “Yitzy” Schleifer, a City District 5 councilor in Baltimore, shared the video to urge authorities to hold both security guards and police accountable.

He emphasized the need for accountability among security personnel in a post on X, tagging the Baltimore Police Department and the City Lawyer’s Office.

A spokesman for Cross Street Public House noted that Weaver was not an employee of the restaurant, as security was provided by Ace Event Services during nighttime hours. It’s still uncertain if Weaver will be retained by that company.

According to the spokesman, both the restaurant and the security firm have since severed their ties with Weaver.
